Big Company web sites, at small company prices

Our philosophy at Business Edge for the last 15 years has been to use our human touch and our business intuition to...

  • build a pro-quality web presence for smaller firms that consequently makes them look larger and stronger than they are
  • build an all-encompassing home on the web that, for larger firms, makes them look friendly and accessible
  • be ROI conscious enough to build a company's web property within a reasonable enough budget so the fee to build your site will never offset the value of having it in the first place

What makes a web site great?

Good question, we're glad you asked. If you were to ask your customers, What would they tell you?

  • it is one that retains customers for longer visits because the web presence is comfortable to look at: colorful, interesting and unique.
  • it is one that does not require great skill to navigate; information is well-organized without fancy gimmicks and hoop-jumping.
  • it is one whose pages load quickly - no one wants to wait forever to view what is, after all, marketing or product information

What makes a good web site not so great?

Again, let your customers tell you. They will tell you that your site is not so great if:

  • they do not feel comfortable purchasing from your site, or doing business with you, for reasons they don't fully understand.
  • information on the site is clearly dated, irrelevant, poorly written, or all of the above
  • they are not persuaded to call your company for more information, or doing so is difficult
  • they can't find you on search engines

What should a web design cost?

The cost of a web design is directly related to the time, effort, and materials involved in the creation of a custom site. If a company gives you a very low-cost proposal - for instance under two to three thousand dollars - there are some questions you need to ask not only yourself, but also the company you plan to work with:

  • Is it possible that the company will use a template web site? it is a common practice among low-cost web design firms to use "templates" - stay away from them
  • Is it possible the company will steal another firm's design and merely paste your logo into it? This, unfortunately, is also a common practice among lower-cost design firms, and has resulted in lawsuits!
  • When you look at the design company's portfolio, have you ever heard of ANY of the companies listed as "clients"? If not, do you want to be the first recognizable firm on their list?
  • When you look at the company's portfolio can you actually visit the completed, published web sites of the "clients"? Do their clients allow their company to link to them from the bottom of their home pages?
  • Can you verify that the company's clients are real? Do they list references and/or case studies with company personnel giving testimonials?

What are the advantages to a Business-Edge.com design?

A Business-edge.com web design has hundreds of advantages over other agencies, but the most important reasons to remember are:

  • Great communication. The easiest path to a ill-conceived web site is the failure to communicate properly. We speak your language, and we are always accessible.
  • Multiple designers. A variety of personalities and styles help us create the perfect image of your firm's brand.
  • A creative director with a background of 30 years of business software development. That experience speaks for itself.
  • Since 1995, we have been delivering long-lasting business-generating web sites.
  • We don't "protect" our creative people from our clients; they work closely with you and can put technical issues into easy to understand terms.
